John F. Haynes
1879 - 1945
John Haynes was a school teacher in Northern England and when he heard Rev. Lloyd
appealing for young men to come to Canada to train as clergy, he took up the call
and arrived in Saskatoon in 1910 and studied at Emmanuel College. Canon Haynes was
the father of long time resident Margaret Sweet, who in her own right, was a very
active parishioner of St. Luke’s, Northminster, as well as St. John’s Minster.
John Haynes was married to Susanna Margaret Love (1894 - 1945). Their son, John Stewart
Haynes was killed in 1942 in World War II and is buried in North Shields, Northumberland,
England.
Canon Haynes took ill on Jan 6, 1945 and Mrs. Haynes the following day. Mrs. Haynes
died following emergency surgery on Jan
19th and Canon Haynes died two months later
on March 20th . Canon and Mrs. Haynes served
the parish for nine years.
Both are buried in the Lloydminster cemetery.
